LC3plus: The Advanced Audio Codec for Enhanced Quality and Flexibility

T2M, a semiconductor intellectual property provider, has introduced a new audio codec solution known as LC3plus.

LC3plus codec

This audio codec is an improvement over its predecessor, LC3, which was initially released in 2017.

LC3plus has been designed to enhance the audio quality of various applications such as voice-controlled devices, wireless headphones, and automotive infotainment systems.

One of the significant advantages of LC3plus is that it provides higher-quality audio at lower bit rates, making it ideal for devices that operate on low-bandwidth networks like Bluetooth and cellular networks.

This is achieved through the use of a spectral band replication technique that allows for the creation of high-frequency content from low-frequency signals.

The codec also uses a parametric stereo technique that enables the transmission of stereo signals using less data than conventional methods.

LC3plus is a highly flexible codec that can be customized to suit different applications. It supports sample rates of up to 48 kHz and provides the option to adjust the frame length and bit rate.

The codec has also been optimized for low power consumption, making it an ideal solution for battery-operated devices.

It is fully compliant with the Bluetooth Low Energy Audio codec specifications, making it an excellent choice for Bluetooth-enabled devices like hearables, wearables, and IoT devices.

Additionally, it has been designed to support voice-activated systems, making it a perfect fit for use in voice-controlled devices.

LC3plus represents a significant improvement over its predecessor, LC3. With its ability to provide high-quality audio at low bit rates, flexibility, and low power consumption, it has the potential to improve the audio codec industry.
