Arithyuv 1.1.1
Arithyuv allows you to capture videos in a lossless format.
In order to install Arithyuv to your computer, you must have administrative privileges; right-click on arithyuv.inf and select “Install”.
This codec has not been developed anymore since 2005, but it may still be necessary for some users. Arithyuv only supports YUY2 colorspace and its settings can be changed during conversion.
The developers of Arithyuv have chosen median prediction and an assembly-optimized implementation of arithmetic coding for this codec, as they consider that Huffyuv is becoming too fast and that many CPU cycles could be used to improve compression.
Compared to Huffyuv, Arithyuv performs better compression, even when adaptive Huffman tables (a ffdshow improvement) are being used. Compared to Lagarith, Arithyuv renders superior results with interlaced sources, since Lagarith cannot see these contents as interlaced video. On the other hand, Lagarith does a better job with progressive frames.
Another way that Arithyuv reduces file size is changing settings during the capture. For instance, removing black borders by cropping is unsafe and not all capture applications allow you to crop videos. Moreover, discarding frames temporarily is less tricky than stopping and restarting the capture.
The last version of Arithyuv was 1.1.1, and it was added a TODO list and had a bug fixed (RGB output decompression).
Arithyuv is a compact tool able to provide lossless compression for your video captures while offering you several advantages compared to other similar tools, especially changing settings during capture in order to reduce file size.
