LameFE is a powerful application which was designed as a front-end for LAME.
It offers CD ripping capabilities and can be extended with plugins (including Winamp plugins).
It also uses information from FreeDB and it provides support for the most common audio file formats.
The most important features of LameFE are encoding CDs directly to MP3, Ogg Vorbis, Wave Audio and Monkey’s Audio; analog audio CD playback; tag editing; customizable filename layouts; getting CD information from MusicBrainz and batch processing which allows you to rip multiple CDs with multiple drives.
The requirements of this powerful application are the x86-compatible CPU, CD or DVD drive and at least 3MB of hard disc space or even more for ripping audio CDs. The Internet connection is optional; you need it in case you want to download music file information from online databases.
In order to create MP3 files, LameFE uses the open source Lame Encoder, which needs to be downloaded separately.
LameFE has not been updated anymore for several years and its development seems to be discontinued.
