MP4Cam2AVI is a helpful and user-friendly application which allows you to convert various video files to the AVI format.
MP4Cam2AVI is portable, which means you don’t have to install it to your computer and modify the Windows registry.
Just keep it on your local disc or on a portable memory device and run it whenever it is necessary.
By using this application, the MPEG-4 camcorders and digital photo cameras can afterwards be easily edited in VirtualDub and Windows Movie Maker.
MPEG-4 camera videos can be played as if they were regular MPEG-4 movies. The conversion performed by MP4Cam2AVI doesn’t imply video recompression, quality losses or using QuickTime. Operation is very fast, between 5 and 20 times faster than realtime.
The cameras that have been tested with MP4Cam2AVI are MPEG4-AVC camcorders, MPEG4-ASP camcorders, photo cameras with H.263 video, and photo cameras with MOV MJPEG video.
Some of the options available with MP4Cam2AVI are batch conversion, converting MJPEG MOV's from photo camera to DivX-compatible MPEG-4 AVI in one click, watching MPEG-4 ASP/AVC/MJPEG clips before conversion using internal preview, arranging clips using a simple timeline, correcting audio and video lag in some cameras and making sound softer with configurable lowpass filter.
The application can convert 3GP files (used by mobile phones), but without maintaining the audio stream.
Limitations of this application also include the file importing methods; the “drag and drop” method is not supported.
Another precaution you need to take is installing the H.263 codec, because the output provided by this application is AVI files with H.263 video.
MP4Cam2AVI is a very useful tool for anyone using a camcorder and looking to convert video into AVI files which can be easily edited and played.

This program has a straightforward and easy to use interface. It does exactly what it says it will do. It superbly and rapidly converts .mov files shot with my Pentax Optio W10 to .avi files. Easy to download and install, and easy to use... and free!

I have a Casio Exilim EX S880, a new model. It stores video in MOV files but encodes with MPEG4-AVC codec and the audio is detected as being IMA ADPCM, according to this software. My goal was to be able to send short clips of video to friends, family, or post to websites.
The camera's MOV files will not play properly in any media player on the planet that I have encountered -except- VLC. Either the video is bad, audio is bad, or both. Every player except VLC. I need to make files playable in a player everybody has.
MP4Cam2AVI accepted my MOV file and produced an AVI output. This file, if it would play at all, displayed a weird, shattered still image, partially negative, partially solarized and basically unrecognizable, with a few pixels changing sporadically at first, then none at all. The audio was a hideous hammering wash of digital noise, about two shots per second, absolutely unlistenable.
I tried VLC, Windows Media Player 11, Quicktime 7, and Media Player Classic.
As far as my new camera is concerned, this program makes things far worse and is not usable for the intended purpose.
