Looking for an alternative to your old audio player? XMPlay may represent a good option for you, too – its developers call it “the world's most accurate module player”.
XMPlay is a lightweight and powerful music player that has been around since 1998. Developed by Ian Luck, XMPlay is known for its high-quality audio playback and small file size.
The player supports a wide variety of audio formats, including MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, and many more.
Things are very simple with XMPlay right from the start – the program doesn’t need to be installed, you just have to extract the ZIP file to a chosen folder and run the executable.
It can even be stored on a portable memory unit.
In case your computer has Windows Vista or 7 installed, you’ll need to use the WASAPI output plugin, xmp-wasapi, and place it in the Plugins directory.
The first thing that XMPlay can boast about is the excellent audio quality. Next, you’ll probably also appreciate the fact that you can play music directly from archived files, without needing to extract information.
Although easy to use, XMPlay packs plenty of features for power users. The complex settings menu allows you to make a wide range of changes, from file associations to appearance settings.
Regarding appearance, its basic interface is not particularly attractive, but you can switch to various skins that will make your user experience more pleasant and allow you to customize the app.
If you still miss Winamp, the good news is you can use Winamp plugins with XMPlay, besides the dozens other native and foreign plugins.
The more capabilities you add, the more interesting your experience with this program will be. However, don’t be afraid all this could put an extra strain on your computer’s performance – XMPlay still manages to use a low amount of resources even if its features are so impressive.
Although it is not as popular as Winamp, XMPlay deserves giving it a try, for the outstanding sound quality it offers and the large number of customization options.
