maybe you should go back and actually read my thread going through my problems. It's ffdshow that keeps causing problems, not codecs. Thanks for 'trying' though.

Playback of WMV files is done purely with codecs from Microsoft.

I've tried reinstalling it again, double-checking to make sure in the last phase I checked "reset to default settings" and that problem seemed to go away.
Before I did that though, I disabled the ffdshow directshow decoders and that also fixed the problems. We were back to square 1, folks. Also, I couldn't play .flv files before this fresh reinstall.

It's friggin happening again! 3.6.5 was working perfectly fine, but as soon as I changed to 3.7.0, I tried to open an .wmv file and there was no sound, and as soon as I stopped playing the video, my whole pc froze up and I had to manually turn it off, and turn it on again a few minutes later.

K-Lite is the best codec pack available. It will most likely solve your problems.
If you still can not play the file after installing the pack, then open your file in the included GSpot tool. That can tell you what kind of audio in inside your AVI file.

I have just installed k-lite. Media Player Classic closes before I can select a file and to be completely honest, I have no idea how to use it! I want to be able to play movies that my media player says it's unable to play due as it does not support the file or codec. Can someone help me please?

Check if the region of your DVD drive is configured correctly. If the region of the drive does not match that of the DVD that you want to play, then it will result in errors.

Hey there. Just installed K-lite Codec 3.6.5 Standard on my IBM ThinkPad laptop, but when I try to play a DVD, Windows Media Player keeps saying there's an error:
WMP has encountered a problem and needs to close
I tried playing the DVD via Media Player Classic and got a similar error.
Clicking on the PCFriendly icon for the DVD gives this error message:
Unknown or unsupported DVD decoder encountered
I tried uninstalling then reinstalling K-Lite but got the same messages. Without K-Lite I get the message that a compatible DVD decoder hasn't been installed on the computer. Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know why some people say it doesn't work with vista x64. I installed and works JUST GREAT!
So k lite codec pack WORKS WITH VISTA X64!!!

The thing with the dual audio problem is that it did not present itself prior to the problems with the video decoder. Before, I could easily switch between the english and japanese audio.
Another interesting point of this problem was that after really tweaking media player classic I was able to get it to play only one audio track, it would only play the japanese audio. Yet the English was the default track.
